ECC 1st XI vs CPPCC T20

20 May 2025 | Joe Edwards
ECC 1st XI vs CPPCC T20

Monday Night Cricket was chosen over the football last night as the Gaters 1’s travelled up the road to Tangmere to face Chichester Lions. Andy returned back to captain the team and won the toss again electing to bat first on a hard wicket.

Rew and Joey opened up for the gate. After hitting a nice 4 Rew was caught for 5. This brought Dan to the crease looking to continue the momentum from the first couple of overs. These 2 demonstrated T20 batting well with both hitting 2 sixes and a couple of fours each before Joey was caught at long on for 37. Dan and Joey did have a 74 run partnership. This wicket led the skipper to the middle and after hitting a 6 and a 4 Andy was given out LBW for 13. Brad then came wandering out to the pitch which he is very familiar with as he lives round the corner from it. Sadly Dan departed just 1 run later for a very good 49 off 26 deliveries. This led to the younger Grant coming to the crease looking to build a partnership with Brad. Similarly to everyone else Henry hit a 6 and a couple of 4s before being bowled for 19. His old man Steve then accompanied Brad in the middle and after hitting a 4 Steve was caught trying to get the gate as many runs as possible for 11. Fergus then came out to bat with 2 balls to go and sadly departed on the last ball of the innings for 0. The gate finished 219-7 after 20 overs.

The Chichester batting innings started off with usual opener Henry steaming in from the top end of the ground. Unlucky for Henry as he didn’t pick up any wickets. Fergus took the second over and bowled well in the power play with both him and Henry restricting the Chi batters. Sadly one of the Chi openers retired hurt after their second ball. Louis and Jack were the first change bowlers this week and they continued the momentum in the Gates favour with tight bowling. A good bit of fielding from Joey saw the Chi number 3 ran out as the bails were taken off by Jack. Louis then joined in by picking up a wicket caught well by Brad on the boundary. However the Chichester number 1 retired 50 not out after 36 balls. Chris and Steve replaced Jack and Louis. Chris picked up 1 wicket from his 3 overs and Steve getting 2 wickets from his 3 overs as well. 1 bowled and the other LBW. The final over of the game was to be bowled by local hero Brad and he picked up a wicket bowled the Chi skipper out in the last delivery of the game.
