First Innings
Batting first, W Holland played the sheet anchor role with a gritty 51 off 68 balls, stabilizing the innings as wickets fell around him. The top order collapsed early — H Blunden, S Nicholas, and R Geraets all scored ducks. H Comins (20 off 48) and I Paine (15 off 34) helped rebuild, but the momentum shift came through C Sumner’s explosive 53 not out from 44 balls, which included six crisp boundaries. N Wright’s 18* ensured a solid finish, pushing the team to a defendable total.
Second Innings
In reply, the opposition showed early promise. N Pierce (16 off 21) and G Blakemore (31 off 39) found gaps but failed to convert their starts. J Tomlinson contributed 24 off 26 before being removed by Sumner. The biggest threat came from D Moon, whose 35 off 31 — including five boundaries and the only six of the match — looked dangerous.
But once Moon fell to Sumner, the innings unraveled.
W Holland capped his all-round day by cleaning up the tail with a clinical spell, claiming 4 wickets including Lamb, Stoner, Gregson, and finishing off the match by removing the dangerous lower order. H Comins also struck thrice, including the early breakthroughs of Burrows and Griffiths. The middle order and tail offered little resistance — five batters failed to reach double figures, three of them going scoreless.
All rounder superb effort by the newly form 3rd XI to support ECC to a second week of 90 points.
