U10 development match

Yesterday evening saw our U10s development team play their first game, for most of the team this was their first ever game of their first ever season playing cricket, that's a lot of firsts!!

The boys were all keen and arrived with plenty of time to spare, they used the time wisely by practicing their catching skills with older juniors supporting. Captain Owen won the toss and elected to field, 8 very excited boys headed out onto the pitch in front of their very excited (and equally nervous) parents.

They fielded well and although the bowling needs a bit of work they all put maximum effort in and kept Rustington to an achievable score. Ralph was the most efficient bowler giving away just 6 runs off his 2 overs.

Following a break for drinks and biscuits Rustington headed out onto the field and Eastergate picked up their bats. By this point the kids had relaxed into the game and just wanted to go out and whack the balls (the parents had also relaxed but I think this was more to do with the bar being open than anything else)

The batting was as confident as the fielding and the score was soon creeping upwards. It soon became apparent that it was going to be an incredibly close match as the runs were balanced with wickets (wickets taking the fielding team UP by 5 runs each time). The end proved absolutely nail-biting with Eastergate winning by just 1 run. Top batsman was Jack with 15 runs.

A great game, played in fantastic spirit against a lovely team. Thank you Rustington for making the journey over to give us a game.

U10 development team you were all fabulous and show enormous potential!
